28Plant Structure TransportHard1 mark
The diagrams show transverse sections of parts of a plant.
Transverse section of a leaf: an elongated blade with a row of small oval structures (each split by a horizontal line) along the upper and lower epidermis, and one larger oval structure (also split by a horizontal line) near the centre, the midrib vascular bundle. Label 1 has two leader lines, to the upper half of the central vascular bundle and to the upper half of the small oval immediately to its right. Label 2 has two leader lines, to the lower half of the central vascular bundle and to the lower half of the small oval immediately to its left.
Transverse sections of a stem and a root. The stem section is a circle with eight oval vascular bundles arranged in a ring near its edge; labels 3 and 4 both point to the topmost bundle, 3 to its outer part and 4 to its inner part. The root section is a circle with root hairs projecting from its edge and a central star-shaped vascular tissue containing two small ringed circles; label 5 points to the small circle in the upper-right of the central tissue, and label 6 points to a spot on the central tissue below and to the left of label 5.
